Hmm, the comment from me saying "ugh grain." is not because I dislike it, its because this kind of topic has come up often lately. This is what happened to some of the early Blu-ray transfers from film to digital, some of which was using a degraded film master and part of which was insufficient bitrate. Also, some digital transfers adds artifacting that is also incorrectly referred to as film grain. I see comments all the time, like "Ugh, film grain" when the scene being mentioned has had deliberate film grain added to achieve a particular look. This is just one of many tools or plugins to deliberately add digital film grain to digital videos: Yes, cellulose film has film grain but totally digital video can also have film grain, deliberately introduced to produce a particular look or effect. I think some people aren't understanding that Film Grain can be a deliberate Art Effect.
